Am I doomed with my Galaxy ?, first the anit-role bar link then the tail gate loom now the drivers door wouldn't open this morning B).

1999 2.3 Ghia just started happening after I changed the tail gate loom which seems weird as didn't think they were linked.

I got in this morning with the key then tried it @ work and got locked in  so climbed out the passenger side, then the door wouldn't lock doh. Windows wouldn't go up either on the drivers side as I had opened it to get out. I tried turning the key to close this window but it didn't close ?. Please say its not the wiring loom in the door..... just tell me to press a nice easy to find reset switch

Any help appreciated as always.

Its now doing weird stuff, like working backwards when I unlocked the doors the drivers door locked  then it wouldn't open but others would and so on.

Maybe just needs a reset ? or some other sequence to put it right.

Did you get the tailgate lock out of sync when you changed the loom? Try disconecting the battery for 20 minutes?

I think the doors were open whilst I changed the loom Ivor, I didn't even disconnect the battery bit naughty but all plugs are pollarised so couldn't really get the mixed up. When you say get the tailgate out of sync how do you mean ?.

Does this confuse the locking system if so its np just to try what you suggested do I have to do any other checks / settings after re-connecting the battery ?.

Thanks

Out of sync - tailgate is locked whereas drivers door is unlocked as you have it open. I would have thought that the CL solenoids would sort themselves out but you never know...

Please tell me you are joking Nimrod  ,

Try locking/unlocking the tailgate conventionally by turning the key in the (tailgate) lock.

You haven't fitted a MKII loom in a MK I ?

Hi guys,

The dealer took the loom number of the old one so i hope its the correct item.

Just to make things worse got home tonight and noticed the air con fans don't work , my god can Ford make a car with less faults ?. Checked the air con fuses which are fine un-plugged the drivers door loom from the A panel then found you need to remove the interior panel to reconnect it grrr that sucks, anyway cables seem fine they not bound together rather they are lose which is far better than the tailgate fiasco.

I have disconnected the battery so giving it half hour to have a think about its future if it don't start working I am selling the bugger.

Any further thoughts suggestions appreciated.... sorry to bleat on but running out of patience now:(.

Guys,

Its spreading :D, now the drivers door mirror won't move but the near side is OK, same fuse according to manual :D, also the milage indicator used to show miles covered without the key/ignition on now its blank.

These things got to be related to something.......just what ?.

Resolved :D,

5 AMP fuse blown which is so annoying as this fuse operates the central locking grrr.... how come the central locking worked on all doors and the tailgate but not the drivers door ?, or is this fuse the drivers door central locking control fuse only ?, this seems more like it to me.

OK confession time I didn't disconnect the battery when changing the loom as already posted and when I pulled the loom out there is a razor sharp burr on one of the gromet holes (now removed) this did bear a wire as I removed it, maybe this blew the fuse.

Only thing which still doesn't function is the drivers door mirror... looking through the book they do folding mirrors which would be great as my Galaxy don't fit in the garage without folding 1 back, is this an option when ordering or is there another secret button you press to fold the mirrors back ?.

Cheers Simon

The Ford mirrors are a different shape to the VW and Seat ones. Don't think that Ford offered folding mirrors as an option at any time - not worth it anyway as they only reduce the width by a few inches. I have the same problem - if I want to put my Gal in the garage, I have to open the driver's window and fold the mirror in by hand. The VW and SEAT ones fold back quite a bit more than the Ford ones and it may be worth paying extra for them - although SEAT appear to fit them as standard on SE spec.

Thanks Ivor,

Spotted it on the TIS disk I think or maybe it was in the manual... anyway was just a thought in case it was fitted and I didn't see the button :D.

Just need the powered mirror to work now :D, according to book there is real1 and relay 2 both used for electric mirrors ?, wonder if 1 of these is buggered.

Strange as there is power at the adjuster switch to move the passenger mirror so the selector button might be knackered ?.
